Pink Floyd Bike - Song Description & Lyrics

Description

Pink Floyd Bike is a song from the album 'The Piper At The Gates of Dawn'. Bike was written by Barrett himself. This song sounds so very different to Pink Floyd's later material. If you are a Pink Floyd fan you will know that this is obviously because the earlier years such as the time of this song primarily consisted of Syd Barrett's music taste as he was the leader of Pink Floyd during the 60's.

What is Pink Floyd Bike about?

If you have already heard Pink Floyd Bike you may have heard the lyrics such as 'cloak', 'mouse' and 'gingerbread men'. This takes me onto explaining what Pink Floyd Bike is actually about. Well Syd Barrett offers a girl, in which case his girlfriend his bike, a cloak, a homeless mouse that he calls Gerald, and a clan of gingerbread men. Why? because as Barrett cries out in the song "she fits in with my world." The noises at the end of the song consist of a range of sounds that are immediately sounded when Syd Barrett takes the girl into a room of musical tunes. These sounds include clocks, gongs, and bells....

Pink Floyd Bike Lyrics

I've got a bike
You can ride it if you like
It's got a basket
A bell that rings
And things to make it look good
I'd give it to you if I could
But I borrowed it

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world
I'll give you anything
Everything if you want things

I've got a cloak
It's a bit of a joke
There's a tear up the front
It's red and black
I've had it for months
If you think it could look good
Then I guess it should

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world
I'll give you anything
Everything if you want things

I know a mouse
And he hasn't got a house
I don't know why
I call him Gerald
He's getting rather old
But he's a good mouse

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world
I'll give you anything
Everything if you want things

I've got a clan of gingerbread men
Here a man
There a man
Lots of gingerbread men
Take a couple if you wish
They're on the dish

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world
I'll give you anything
Everything if you want things

I know a room full of musical tunes
Some rhyme
Some ching
Most of them are clockwork
Let's go into the other room and make them work
